A cold rainy, slick morning. The perfect conditions to run on a treadmill inside. Timing was good because I had a Sustained Fartlek workout scheduled and it would have been hard to keep the pace with the conditions as they are.
The alarm went off at 4:15 this morning and I was ready to face the challenge ahead of me. Its always so quiet in my house at that time that I get tricked into thinking that everyone else in my town is asleep as well. Almost everyone. Reality sets in as I arrive at the Courts and see a line of early morning athletes standing outside the door anxiously waiting to get in. Excited about starting my workout, I quickly take my place in line and wait for that magic moment when the doors open and I can hop on a treadmill and go. In about 10 seconds the once quiet facility is filled with the humming sound of treadmill belts and exercise bikes all spinning as fast as our legs can take them. Had a pleasant surprise as I met up with a bunch of ERC members. We mounted the treadmills side by side and started our workouts. I enjoy running next to this group as their speed and commitment to their program makes me want to push harder. They are a great group of runners to workout with if you are interested in working on your speed. These guys can fly! Me, I'm still trying to figure this pace thing out.
Today's workout was a good challenge; Sustained pace Fartlek.
Completed 7 miles at scheduled pace.
Finished my workout and legs were tired. This was a challenge as I really had to focus and push myself to run strong the last two sets. My Heart Rate (HR) at peak pace on the 6th set was 156. Lowest HR on the EZ run was 141. There are 2 things that I like about running on the treadmill, 1. You are able to run a true pace and 2. It gives me time to work on my running form.
Today's workout was great and left me energized to tackle a boatload of work today. Pushing hard at the end of my workout will help me tomorrow mentally as I have to try sit through a day off. Ugh!
Today my spiritual focus is to "pay it forward". Find an opportunity to help someone who has helped me. To not judge but to accept. To be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
