Feb 17 "A One Man Wolf Pack" Boston 2012

A One Man Wolf Pack

I can't help but laugh every time I hear the dialogue about the One Man Wolf Pack from the movie "The Hangover".  If you have never seen the movie, you don't know what you are missing.  This part of the movie reminds me of myself and running.  If I am not running with John, chances are I am out there by myself.  I enjoy the solitude and often use the time to work on creative projects or solve business issues.  However there are days when I truly enjoy running with others and being part of a wolf pack.  Sometimes, it's just hard to find people wide awake at 5:00 a.m.  Luckily every once in awhile I happen to run into my wolf pack and the benefits are endless.  Check out the wolf pack dialogue from the movie.

Alan Garner: You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when my sister brought Doug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later. And six months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together, in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!
In my world, it would read like this;

Me:  You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner.  I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack.  But when I met Anne, I knew she was one of my own.  And my wolf pack...it grew by one.  So there...there were two of us in the wolf pack..I was alone first in the pack, and then Anne joined in later.  And a short time later, Anne introduced me to you guys (Becky and Susan), I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more runners to my wolf pack.  Four of us wolves, running around the prairie path together in Elmhurst, looking for other runners and water.  So, this morning, I toast all of us with some gatorade!

Yes, Anne, Becky, Susan and I, we are a wolf pack.

Today I split my 9 mile  run by going solo for 5 of my miles and ran the other 4 with the wolf pack.  Susan and I ran a bit ahead of Becky and Anne at a bit of a quicker pace.  It was a great opportunity to learn more about Susan, her family and her future running plans.  Sweet person and an awesome sense of humor.  I love reading her updates on Facebook.  They always make me smile.  It is always fun to run with the pack and you never know what might be discussed. It sure keeps you on your toes.  All of us are different paces, but the one thing that we have in common is that we enjoy each other's company when we run.  It is funny, but I seem to run into them when I am really in need of a good lift.  Today was no exception.  I really appreciated their company, conversation and friendship oh, and their fashion sense with running attire.  They always have the coolest clothes!

To the wolf pack....May we never stop running!!!!!
