Ride A Bike...See The World

Ok so maybe on a 20 mile ride you're not going to see the WHOLE world, but you can have fun buzzing through different towns.  32 degrees at the start of my ride and cloudy skies.  Ahhh, it is starting to warm up in Chicago.  Its always different dressing for a bike ride than a run.  After I started I realized that I shouldn't have worn my running shoes on the bike.  Within the first few miles, my feet were frozen.  32 degrees and a swift wind can make a ride even on a sunny day seem cool.

Saw the ERC logging their miles and started thinking about my 16 mile run tomorrow.  I am hoping that the weather might be a bit warmer, but as long as I'm not running through snow, I'll be happy.  My ride today was AWESOME.  I was so happy to be riding a bike outside and not inside in a spin class.  I enjoy the spin classes and I can tell that the work that I have been putting forth has helped me make this ride easier.  My workout called for an EZ ride so I found a comfortable gear and kept my legs moving continuously for 10 miles.  Had to pause once for a car but other than that, biked from Elmhurst, to Villa Park, through Lombard, Glen Ellyn and then hit the bridge in Wheaton without stopping.

Leaving the house to start my ride.

The Wheaton Bridge Mile 0.
When you hit this, you know you have arrived.

So happy to be riding outside.

Broke out the power bar and water for a quick snack then turned around and headed back home.  I was hoping that the wind would be at my back and push me along a bit, but no such luck.  Oh well.  I was almost as lucky with traffic on the way home as I was on my ride out.  Had to stop at one intersection and then I was free; spinning those tires all the way home.  The only time my life was in danger was when I almost got hit by my neighbor backing her car out of the driveway.  Good thing I was watching what she was doing.  I have to admit, that situation was too close for comfort.
First workout of the day is done and in the books.   Bike Ride:  Planned:   20 Miles                           Completed:  20 Miles (Outside baby!!  Who hoo)

After refueling, doing some laundry and a bit of housework, it was time to head to the pool for my second workout.  Today was a short 1500.  The pool was vacant except for 1 other swimmer.  Water was a bit cool but the temp outside the pool was warm so everything was going great.  Workout was challenging and different.  The water felt so good on my legs.  A refreshing workout that left me hungry for lunch and energized to attack some work projects.  Counted my strokes today.  I am down one more stroke.  So happy about that.  Now, I just need to be consistent with that every lap and I will begin to consider myself improving.

Refueled with a Recovery Bar.  Ate huge lunch. I was so hungry!!!!!
