Aside from having a slew of things running through my mind and keeping me up past 8:30 at night, I am still struggling with focus on my workouts and replacing all the calories I am burning. This staying up past 10:00 is killing me. I am in a terrible funk right now and I am trying harder than ever to shake it.
Today I was scheduled for a 6 mile tempo run (10 mile total). With the way that I was feeling, I knew that there was only one way I was going to get an honest run in. I had to go to the Courts and run on the treadmill. With the sun shining outside I would have loved to run on the path, but I knew that I would have thought of any excuse to not push as hard as I needed to, so I headed inside where the pace doesn't lie. I needed to focus and if I needed some help from the treadmill well, then I'll take it.
I ran my 2 mile warm up easy, 9:10 pace. Then it was time to get down to business. Boy, I don't know if I am burned out or what, but it was a struggle to set up the treadmill. Every other thought was going through my mind except what I was supposed to do.
I set up my intervals and started the workout. My legs were tired and feet let like bricks. The energy I got from the banana I had for breakfast was long gone and I was running on empty. I was able to handle the first three miles but that was when I hit the wall. Then, my saving grace. Through the window, I could see this little group of kids running down the hill. There must have been about 4 boys running back and forth going crazy. And, then I saw why they were running all over. Another boy came tearing down the hill in a Batman costume. He was chasing all the other kids and I think doing some kind of bat kicks or something like that. It was so fun to watch and helped lighten my mood. I wish I would have had their energy. They kept running around for close to 20 minutes. Their mothers were smart, cause they just sat on the bench and talked while the kids were running around like maniacs. There were also times I was wishing I was the moms sitting on the bench. (Huh?--I have got to learn to relax) Too bad they left before I finished my workout. Oh well. Thanks to my mid workout distraction, I was able to finish my run but I was physically drained.
All of the miles were within my goals but it took everything that I had to get them done. I am not sure if doing this workout on the treadmill would count as cheating, but I knew that I would run the pace I needed to and get the full workout in.
My hat goes off to the "Caped Crusader" for distracting me and providing some relief. Thank you Batman for saving a damsel in distress.
