So its been while since I have written any entries. Life has gotten really busy and challenging. My injury to my hamstring placed a brief pause in my running. Instead, I was working on swimming and biking to maintain my strength and focus on the race. I did some light runs to see how well it was healing, but nothing really to speak of. When I am not running, I find it very hard to relax and clear my mind. Most of the time my long runs serve as therapy sessions minus the therapist and the hefty charge. So, being on the sidelines for me is physically and mentally painful. I just need to remind myself that the rest is needed so I can regain strength and I can be ready come race day. Why is something so simple like that, so hard for me to understand?
So tonight was my last HUGE pasta meal before my last 20 mile run tomorrow. This long run is my victory lap to the prairie path. After all the loops, and different routes I have taken over the last 4 months, this is a flat straight out and back run. No need to count the miles or the markers. I just have to run from my house to the base of the bridge in Wheaton and back home. My biggest challenge will be the time of day that I need to run it. My run will start around 8:30 after I take my son to school. Which means, as I cross all the streets leading to Wheaton, I will be racing cars across the lanes. I just need to be sure that they see me when I see them. Sometimes it can be tricky, but I am sure that I will be fine.
I have my clothes layed out, fuel bottles ready and Gu is packed. I just need to set out my heart monitor, running watch and iPod and I will be all set. The weather tomorrow is supposed to be clear and in the high 40's. My kind of running weather.
I thought a lot today about my friends (the Wolfpack) that ran the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago. They had a great day to run the race and it sounds like they had an awesome time. I am so glad that things went well for them. I am looking forward to doing some races with them in the future. And I am wishing a happy runniversary to Susan. Look how far you have come in one year and think of how much better you will be 1 week, 1 month and 1 year from now. Great job at the Shuffle, Anne, Becky and Susan! Save a spot for me at the next race.
In addition to tracking my miles for Boston, I just ran my 1,004th mile as tracked by my Nike+ watch. Wow, that is some pretty heavy mileage and doesn't include all the miles I have run without my watch on, or miles biked or swam. And to think, I am still 548 miles away from reaching the purple level. Got to just keep on plugging away.
In addition to running, I've got a lot going on personally and am working hard to stay focussed on the upcoming race. In need of a little inspiration, I found this passage and prayer and am using it for some much needed support.
Therefore, I say to you: ask, and it will be given you; seek and you will find: knock, and the door will be opened to you. -Lk 11:9
Like Elijah, we will not find the Lord in the storm, the earthquake, or in the multitude of distractions of our time.
No, we find Him in the tiny whisper of a breeze, in a noisy silence. We seek the Lord in the silence of our hearts, waiting patiently for His whisper.
"I am waiting Lord". "Speak to me".
