March 9 **Tales of Robert Crown & Other Children's Stories** Boston 2012

Nothing could be more relaxing than running with good friends on an EZ scheduled day and sharing stories of our children's antics. These are the moments I treasure.  It helps me to understand that I am not the only parent in the world that goes through strange and sometimes stressful situations.  What happens in one week of my son's life can be everything from extremely funny to unbelievable.

Each of us in our group have a boy close to the same age and that fact alone provides us with countless tales of mischief, misbehavior, good deeds and curiosity that we can share with each other.  And, anytime the name "Robert Crown" comes up, those tales of curiosity are brought on by fear and the unknown.

To provide a little background, Robert Crown is a center that provides an education experience for students (5-6 grade) to learn about the changes their body will be experiencing in the next couple of years.  The boys learn about their bodies the first year and the next year they learn about the changes a girl experiences.    As a parting gift, each child is given a book about their own body that they can take home and review when they have questions.  The purpose of the program is to open the lines of communication between parent and child about these issues and so that children will have a better understanding of what to expect and to know that they are not the only ones that are going through this strange experience.  The students are also asked not to share this information with the younger students which provides some mystique about this whole event.

The reality is, as my older daughter put it, "Robert Crown can scar you for life"  I wouldn't go that far, but  I would say that it prompts some very amusing topics of conversations with our children which in turn become hours of amusement for the parents.  Visiting Robert Crown has become a right of passage at my son's school.  Lucky for me, he wanted to keep his book about "Michael" for reference.

Today's run was an easy 7 miles and a great time.  Glad I got to run with Anne ad Becky and share stories of our sons, our son's funny stories, and upcoming events in their lives.

My son has his bridging ceremony for scouts.  He is moving up from Weblos to Boy Scouts and they have a big dinner.  Just to be safe and know that I will have enough pasta, I am bringing my own share.  I wouldn't want someone to go hungry because I ate so much.  As it stands right now, when I am, going to do a long run, I can almost eat a full box of spaghetti myself.  The only bad thing about running long on Saturday morning is that I can't eat meat because it is Lent.  Hopefully, it won't matter too much.

Managed to stop in at the local running store, "Runner's Soul".  The Runner's Soul is locally owned by a fellow marathoner.  Its great to purchase shoes and other running items from them as this keeps the tax dollars in the community.  And to help out good 'ol Elmhurst, I purchased a pair of Newtons and some running gel called Rocugel.  Going to try it for the first time on my long run tomorrow.  If it works, I will be using it in Boston.  I am all for shopping local.  Good staff, good prices, lots of fun runs and part of the community. You can't ask for anything better than that.
