April 10, 2012 I Can Go The Distance ---- Boston Marathon 2012

I Can Go The Distance-
Disney Records

I have often dreamed
Of a far off place
Where a hero's welcome
Will be waiting for me
Where the crowds will cheer
When they see my face
And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be

I will find my way
I can go the distance
I'll be there someday
If I can be strong
I know every mile
Will be worth my while
I will go most anywhere
To feel like I belong

Six days before the big race and its time to do a mileage check.  I had kept runners journals for most of my marathons and I always find it interesting to see just how far I have come over the past 4 months.

So, lets see, the journey began on November 29, 2011 and will end with a 3.1 mile run with my son in Boston the day before the marathon.  So, how far did I actually run, swim and bike these last 4 months?

Total number of miles I have run:  825.65.

Total number of miles I have swam:  53,645 yards or 29.80 miles

Total number of miles I have biked:  490.20.

The total number of miles I prepared for this race, 1,345.65 miles.

So, lets put this into perspective, driving miles from my house in Elmhurst to the Finish Line in front of the library on Boylston Street, in Boston Mass is 1,030 miles.  In my training I ran, biked and swam all the way to the finish line in Boston and beyond.  So, I still have another 342.65 miles left in my pocket. Hmmm where should I go now?

Other Fun Distances:

From Elmhurst to Sulphur Louisiana, - my friend's house is 1,060 miles.  I could run over there and say "hi".

From Elmhurst to Aurora Colorado,-another friend's house is 1,000 miles away.  I could pop in for something to drink.

From Elmhurst to Disney World in Florida- 1,180 miles away, I could act Goofy and run to the Magic Kingdom and visit some characters.

From Elmhurst to the NASA Space Center in Houston, TX, 1,110 miles away, I could run there and let Houston know that they have a problem.

But, in order to see my brother in southern California I would need to keep training as he lives 2,000 miles from me and that makes me 634.35 miles short.  Oh well, maybe in my training for the next marathon, I will train with enough miles to see him too.
