Simply put, trusting in the Lord will enable us to accomplish all those things in life that God has in mind for us.
This is a great passage to start my Boston training log with. Sometimes I get so caught up in what I want or am trying to do, that I forget about what He has in store for me. I fail to see all the good that is in front of me because I am too busy looking for the next challenge. I want to praise Him by following the path that He has chosen for me. I want to be grateful for all that I have and can do and to share my talents with those that are not as fortunate as I am. No excuses, this journey to Boston will be a reflection of physical and spiritual growth. It's time for me to look deep inside and see who I really am.

This past November, I was fortunate to run the NYC Marathon with three amazing people, Kelly Fillnow Professional Triathlete, Jennie Finch, US Olympic Softball Player and personal friend, and Susanne Davis, Professional Triathlete and Professional trainer. What an amazing time it was and something I will never forget. The best part about the race was that Timex (sponsor of the event), donated $1 for every person that Jennie passed. Our team raised over $30,000 as we passed over 30,000 runners from starting dead last. I honestly don't remember too much about the race as there was so much going on, but it was a lot of fun and new friendships were formed.
So, after setting a PR in Boston last year, I became hungry to do it again. The only problem was that I needed help getting to that next level. So, I enlisted the help of my new found friend and Professional Trainer, Susanne Davis. With all of her experience and knowledge, I knew I would be in good hands. Here is some information about her and her accomplishments.
www.tricoachdavis.com was developed to offer runners and triathletes a personalized coaching program and create an opportunity to give back to less fortunate kids in the community. Learning to balance job, family and lifestyle is something in which Susanne is an expert and can help you achieve! Susanne is a coach who can provide the training structure necessary for a first time racer or a lifelong athlete wanting to break a personal record. Susanne Davis is a decorated athlete who has set course records and won many Sprint Distance Triathlons. As a Professional Triathlete in the 1990s, she travelled the world racing ITU World Cups and competed in the 2000 US Olympic Triathlon Trials. This October, in only her second Ironman, she turned Kona upside down by breaking the existing 35-39 Age Group World Record and placing 2nd Overall Amateur at the 2010 Ironman World Championships. She was the 1st American Woman and placed 23rd among the Pro Field!
So, how does one prepare for a race when the trainer lives in sunny California and I am training in the midwest? Everything is done via a virtual training plan. I receive weekly workouts with specific routine and exercises. These workouts are based on a HR test and personal training session to test my threshold, endurance and pace. After I complete the workout(s), I upload the data to my coach so she can evaluate my progress and plan the next week accordingly. I also talk with her on the phone to review progress and share health and fitness information. It definitely is a different way of training but, I can feel and see the improvement in my workout performances and am anxious to test them in a race. I am also working with a nutritionist in an effort to stay healthy and strong.
So, this covers the physical part of the training but what about the spiritual end and giving back aspect of it? In the past few years, I have worked with Special Olympics at a variety of their events. I love being part of that group and enjoy working with the athletes. I plan on giving back by once again sharing my time with these special athletes. I also plan on becoming more active with programs in my church and community. So the outline for this journey is written, now I just need to fill in the blanks and finish the story.
My workouts originally began on Dec. 1, 2011. The following is my training plan beginning the week of Jan 16, 2012. I will post daily entries about my running and life in general.
The Boston Marathon is 91 Days away.
