"All skills are perfected through the process of failure. Embrace loss as a necessary part of improvement". Feb 6 & 7, 2012 So, lets see what did I learn about my failed run on Sunday? Well, I think I need to get better at listening to what my body is telling me. From the way the rest of Sunday went and the way that I felt on Monday, I needed the day off in the worst way possible. My level of energy was at an all time low. I think one of the hardest things for me to do is recognize that taking a day off or adjusting a schedule because of the way you feel is ok.(I'm working on this Coach). There is always another day to run. Monday, I spent most of the day in some comfy sweats and rested. I gave my body a chance to recharge and relax. I didn't know there was so much garbage on TV during the day. If it only could have been March Madness, then I wouldn't have had any problem sitting still. I love college basketball almost as much as running. I drank lots of liquids, took a nap and went to bed early. By the end of the evening I was looking forward to starting my workout for the week. Feb. 7, 2012 Today Coach had me scheduled for 2 workouts. The first was a 9 mile Endurance Hill run. There was a lot of race pace sprinting involved with this and I just didn't feel that I was up to a bunch of short hard runs. Maybe I was a bit gun-shy about it since this was the last workout I did before I got sick the next day on my run. I wanted to do the mileage but at a more controlled pace. I headed to the Arboretum and ran 9 miles of rolling hills instead. It took a bit to get my legs moving, but I completed the run without incident and that was a good confidence booster. My second workout today was supposed to be a 1 hr 15 min bike ride. I decided to pass on this and rest instead. Tomorrow is a big swim workout (2400 yards) and I want to be ready to rock it. If I have energy after the swim, later on, I will try and work in the bike workout that I missed today. |
